Thelma A. Crowder

 

Thelma A. Owens Crowder, age 75, of Mountain City, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, October 16, 2005, at her residence.

Mrs. Crowder was a daughter of the late Millard B. and Beulah Forrester Owens. She was a lifelong resident of Johnson County except for the 22 years she lived in Delaware. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Fred, John, Ray, Virgil, and Carl Owens. She was a member of Liberty Christian Church.

Thelma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will truly be missed.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Wiley B. Crowder; three daughters, Nancy Crowder Brooks of Johnson City, Debby Crowder Adams and husband, Elmer of Simpsonville, SC, and Lisa Crowder Osborne and husband, Tim of Mountain City; two sisters, Betty Owens Roop of Mountain City and Margaret Campbell of Wooster, Ohio;  one brother, Paul D. Owens of Mountain City; seven grandchildren, Tara, Jason, Erin, Jared, Jeff, Chris, and Sydney; nine great grandchildren, Austin, Makayla, Brady, Kensleigh, Lucas, Carly, Aynslee, Connor, and Alexander and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2005, at Mountain City Funeral Home with the service being conducted at 8 p.m.  Jim Hutchinson, Minister and Bill Reece, Minister to officiate. The interment and committal service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phillippi Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Adams, Jared Adams, Jeff Brooks, Mark Griffith, Richard Church, and Michael Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be Elmer Adams, Tim Osborne, Mike Owens, Chris Osborne and her great grandsons.

 

 

Thelma Mae Gentry Fenner

 

Thelma Mae “Granny” Gentry Fenner, age 77, of Mountain City went to be with the Lord, October 17, 2005 at her residence.

She was a lifelong resident of Johnson County and was a daughter of the late Isaac and Nannie Forrester Gentry. She was a member of Liberty Christian Church, member of Liberty Ladies Aide and member of Liberty Church  Choir.

Thelma was a lady with a generous heart and loved helping others. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her grandchildren were a great joy in her life.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Gail Fenner; her daughter, Trudy Karen Fenner Potter and her husband, SFC David Potter of Radford, VA; two sons, Roger Gail Fenner and his wife, Jennie of Mountain City and Ricky Thomas Fenner and his wife, Kim of Mountain City; Sister Iretis “ReeRee” Johnson of Mountain City; two brothers, Pat Gentry of Washington State and Hayse Gentry of Mountain City; eight grandchildren, Tracie Combs, Davina Younce, Cassandra Fenner, Trista Fenner, Letici

a Potter, Ericka Fenner, Chelsea Fenner and Ricky T. Fenner, Jr.; four great grandchildren, Megan Combs, Colby Combs, Deanna Younce and Maggie Combs; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, October 20, 2005 from 1 until 2:15 P.M. at Mountain City Funeral Home with the service to follow at 2:30 P.M. Jim Hutchinson, Minister to officiate. The committal service and interment will follow in Phillippi Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Lewis, John Triplett, Tommy Cress, Jamie Cress, Tim Laws, Steve Reece, Terry Thompson, and Joe Ray Gentry. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Liberty Christian Church. The Liberty Christian Church Choir will provide the music.

Clarence McElyea

 

Clarence McElyea, age 77, of Rainbow Road, Mountain City, died Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at Watauga Medical Center.

 Mr. McElyea was a lifelong resident of Johnson County and was a son of the late McKinley and Maggie Tester McElyea. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Brad Dunn in 1991. He was a member of Roan Creek Baptist Church and had been attending Rainbow Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marie Bryant McElyea; three daughters, Kathy Dunn and her husband, Paul, Linda Wilson and her husband Lewis, and Sheila Story and her husband, Steve, all of Mountain City; son danny McElyea and his wife Tammy of Mountain City; Brother Lewis McElyea and his wife Ann of Mountain City; four grandchildren, Matt Story and Chris McElyea, both of Mountain City, Bethany Story and her fiancé, Nick Allen of Winston Salem, NC and Angela Rhudy and her fiancé, Jessee Carico of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2005 at Mountain City Funeral Home.  The service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, November 11th in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum with Rev. J. C. Greene officiating. Pallbearers will be Paul Dunn, Lewis Wilson, Steve Story, Matt Story, and Chris McElyea. Honorary pallbearers will be Milburn Icenhour, Dagel Lipford, Ray Adams, and Harvey Brown.

James Baxter “Jay” Wills

 

 

James Baxter “Jay” Wills, age 83, of Mountain City, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2005, at his home.

 A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Ed H. and Mary Wills. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward H Wills, Jr. in 1974 and a sister, Elizabeth Wills Muse McCellan in 2002.

Mr. Wills was a retired farmer, businessman and milk-route owner/operator. He hauled milk for Pet Dairies and Dairymen Inc. for many years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years Reba Nelson Wills; his sons James B. (Jim) Wills, Jr., wife Charlotte and children Jamie and Chrissy of Knoxville; Mike Wills and wife Bernadene and Children, Amy and Gary of Mountain City; daughters, Nancy Wills Shoun and her husband, Tommy Jack and sons T.J. and Judd of Mountain City; and Linda Wills Woodring and her husband, Morris and children Susan and Brock. He also leaves a brother, Lewis H. Wills of Mountain City and a sister, Dorothy Shore of Jacksonville, FL.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2005 at Mountain City Funeral Home, with the service to follow at 8 p.m. Rev. Larry Rye will officiate. Music was provided by Sherry Tester and Mary Hawkins. Taylorsville Masonic Lodge # 243 of Mountain City will conduct Masonic Rites. Pallbearers will be Junior Pennington, Joe Triplett, Bob Stanberry, Odell Johnson, James Pennington, Malcolm Hawkins, Mac Phillips and Lester Mallet. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Burgess, Ed Lloyd, Harold Fenner, Tom Hutchinson, Ken Towry, Bill Moore and Milburn Icenhour. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 13th at Wills Cemetery with Rev. Warren Stewart  officiating.

John King Nelson, Jr.

 

John King Nelson, Jr., age 83, of Mountain City, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at Johnson County Health Center.

Junior, as he was known by his friends was a lifelong resident of Johnson County and was a son of the late John King Nelson, Sr. and Cora Smith Nelson.  He was a charter member of the Johnson County Rescue Squad and was a member of First Christian Church.

Junior was also preceded in death by a son, Glenn Nelson; two sisters, Vadie Mills and Anna Mae Dickens and two brothers, Jim and Sam Nelson.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Nelson; two daughters, Lois Williams and husband, Mike of Oklahoma City, OK and Tracie Arnold and husband, David of Blountville, TN; two sons, Tommy Nelson and wife, Janie of Mountain City and Johnny Nelson and wife, Shirley of Bristol, VA; two step-daughters, Rita Reece and husband, Shane of Mountain City, and Debbie Arnold of Mountain City; stepson, Lee Arnold of Mountain City; three sisters, Chelsea Jones, Danford Smith, and Reba Wills, all of Mountain City; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2005 at Mountain City Funeral Home with the service to follow at 8 p.m. Mr. Buddy Zuercher, Minister, will officiate. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 26th at Phillippi Cemetery. Pallbearers will be friends and neighbors.

Bob Franklin Reece

 

 

Bob Franklin Reece, age 73, of Laurel Bloomery, TN, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2005, at his residence.

Bob was a lifelong resident of Johnson County and was the son of the late Franklin and Jessie Sherman Reece. He was a veteran of the United States Army, a member of the American Legion Post 61 and was a member of State Line Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Bob was also preceded in death by a sister, Little Kate.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shirley Ann Potter Reece; son, Tony Reece and his wife, Claudine of Laurel Bloomery; Two sisters, Maudene Sherman and husband, Jeff Poulterer and Mary Jane Puckett and husband, Doug; two grandchildren, Libby and Jacob Reece; one aunt, Annie Mae Leffman and her son, Charles; special friend, Maxine Walsh; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2005, at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 1st in the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Spratlin, Pastor and James Gentry, Pastor officiating. The committal service will follow in State Line Cemetery.  Military Rites will be conducted by Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Larry Potter, Troy Potter, Roger Morefield, Ralph Morefield, Dave Garland, David Hash, Jason Heaton, Henry Neely, Doug Puckett, and C. R. Barnwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Gentry, Sam Morefield, P. J. Potter, Jim Morefield, Luther Gentry, Charlie Martin, Dr. Buddy Clayton, Dave Pennington Gerald Trivette, Jeff Poulterer, and Paul Morefield.

David E. Snyder, age 105, of Mountain City, passed away Thursday, December 08, 2005, at
Watauga Medical Center.
 David was born, April 17, 1900, a son of the late Roby and
Lydia Wilson Snyder.  He was an accomplished stone mason and carpenter and a member of Antioch Baptist Church
. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Martin Snyder.
 Survivors include two daughters, Norma Jean Snyder Cross of Houston, TX and Valena Snyder  Grindlinger of Green Valley, Arizona; his son, David Snyder, Jr. of Nashville, TN; his brother, Cecil Snyder of Brushy Fork Rd, Zionsville, NC; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
 The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2005, at Mountain City Funeral Home with the service to follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Clyde Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in
Sunset Memorial Park
.

Donald Robert Osborne

 

 

Donald Robert “Donnie” Osborne, age 38, of Mountain City, passed away, Tuesday, December 13, 2005.

Donnie was born July 5, 1967 in Carthage, NY, a son of James G. and Sarah Mulvaney Osborne.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his two sons, Aaron and Issaac Osborne of Mountain City; two brothers, Steve and Rick Osborne of Mountain City;  his grandmothers; Marie Mulvaney of Carthage, NY and Marie Osborne of Mountain City; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m., Friday, December 16th, at Mountain City Funeral Home with the service to follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Gary Gambill officiating. The interment will follow in Rainbow Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rainbow Menonite Church, Building Fund, 1155 Rainbow Road, Mountain City, TN 37683.

 

             

           

Addie Dunn Horne

 

Addie Dunn Horne, age 86, of Mountain City, went to be with the Lord Sunday, December 18, 2005, at Johnson County Health Center.

Addie was a lifelong resident of Johnson County and was a daughter of the late Frank and Bessie Shelton Dotson. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Hattie Shelton, Hettie Shelton, Betty Shelton and Myrtle Shelton Snyder; three brothers, Glen, Robert, and Paul Shelton; and two grandsons, Larry “Big L” Dunn and Matthew Dunn.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Otis Horne; two sons, William Kenneth Dunn and Robert Larry Dunn and his wife, Darlene, all of Mountain City; sister, Ann Shoun; brother, John Shelton and his wife, Shirley of Mountain City; sister-in-law, Ruby Shelton of Johnson City; and brother-in-law, Hardin Snyder of Mountain City; five grandchildren, Robert B. Dunn, Angela Dunn Norris and her husband, John, Jennifer Dunn Lunceford and her husband, Cliff, Michael L. Dunn, all of Mountain City and Doug Price of Erwin; seven great grandchildren, Brittany and Austin Dunn, Tristin and Ian Norris, and Elosha, Christopher and Devin Lunceford; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 untill 7:45 p.m., Tuesday, December 21, 2005 at Mountain City Funeral Home with the service to follow at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Frank Woods and Rev. Norm Reece officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 22nd at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert Bruce Dunn, Mark Slemp, Harvey Poore, Doug Taylor, Dan Taylor, and Doug Price. Mabel Wallace

 

Mabel Wallace, age 99, of Trade, Tennessee, passed away, Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at Johnson County Health Center.

Mabel was a lifelong resident of Johnson County and was a daughter of the late David and Mattie Davis Miller. Mabel enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking and sang in the quartet and church choir. She was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Wallace; three sisters, Maude Wilson, Alma Meade and Iva Lee Potter; one brother, Loyd Miller.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Ruth Snyder and Pearl Wallace, both of Mountain City; four brothers-in-law, Glen Wallace of Trade, Ralph Wallace and Bruce Wallace, both of Mountain City and Wade Wallace of Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 30 2005 at Mountain City Funeral Home with the service to follow at 2:00 P.M. with Jim Hutchinson, Minister, officiating. Music will be provided by Ray Branch and Carol Roark. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Mark Wallace, Bill Wallace, George Main, Otto Main, Wade Thomas and

Greg Reece. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Whitlock and Staff of Mountain City Care Center.

Friends may also visit with the family at the home of her niece, Bernice and Chester Reece, 141 Canter Road, Trade, TN.

 

      

Jim Morefield

 

 

Jim Morefield, age 74, of Laurel Bloomery, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at Johnson County Health Center.

Jim was a lifelong resident of Laurel Bloomery and was a son of the late Elmer and Lucy Able Morefield. He and his wife, Violet established and operated the Main Street Restaurant for eight years and he was a lifelong burley tobacco farmer. He was a member of State Line Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Emily Corum; a sister, Mary Morefield; five brothers, Orville, Marvin, Bob, Charlie and Homer Morefield.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Violet Chambers Morefield; his daughter, Sonia Corum and husband, Jamie of Laurel Bloomery; his son, Rick Morefield and wife, Vickie of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren, Josh Morefield and wife, Melissa, Brittany Morefield and Tynae Corum; sister, Ruth Martin and husband Charlie; brothers, Sam and wife Lou Ella, Scott and wife Juanita, and Rector and wife Rose Ella and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at Mountain City Funeral Home with the service to follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Derl McCloud  and Rev. Steve Spratlin officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 29th at State Line Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews.

Eric Lynn Goble

 

Eric Lynn Goble, age 40, of Jenkins Hollow Road, Mountain City, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2005, at his residence.

Eric was a native of Lenoir, North Carolina and worked as a printer at Hospitality Mint in Boone. He was a United States Army veteran serving in the Gulf War.

Survivors include his wife Angela Cline Goble; his mother Linda Goble of Morganton, NC; two daughters Tiffany Goble of Marion, NC and Bonnie Shoemaker and husband Kenny of Mountain City; three sons, Jonathan Goble of Ft Bragg, NC, Nicholas Bentley and Mark Barnett, both of Mountain City; two brothers, Jamie Goble of Lenoir, NC and Tom Hatley of Johnson City, TN, one grandson Kenny Shoemaker, Jr.; special uncle Pete Goble, Morganton, NC and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 2, 2006 at Mountain City Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 P.M. with Chaplain Jeremy Hopkins officiating.
