Daniel Charles Cullop

I was born on July 23, 1962 in Banner Elk, North Carolina to Raymond “Bud” Cullop and Katherine Huggins Cullop. I am a 1980 graduate of Johnson County High School.  In 1985, I married Patsy Rhymer and we have two children, Shawna, who is a freshman at East Tennessee State University and Eric, who is a sophomore at Johnson County High School. My family and I attend First Baptist Church, where I serve as deacon.

I was employed by the Town of Mountain City from 1981 until 1986 as a police officer.  After leaving this position, I was employed by Tri-State Growers of Mountain City from 1986 until 1990. In 1990 I was elected Johnson County Clerk and proudly served in this position for sixteen years. During this time, I also volunteered as a member of the Mountain City Fire Department, where I served as chief for five years. I am currently serving as President of the Johnson County Kiwanis Club, President of the Johnson County Gideon Camp and for several years have served as President of the Phillippi Cemetery Incorporated.  In October, 2005, Mountain City Funeral Home was established where I serve as President and devote my time to serving the families of Johnson County.  In April, 2007, I was named to the Board of Directors of Farmers State Bank.

I consider it an honor and a privilege to live in this area and to be able to offer assistance in your time of need.  Please feel free to call or come by anytime.

Levon Bass

I was born and raised in Florida and I now live part time in Okeechobee, Florida and Mountain City. I went to college in Troy State, Alabama and then transfered to Dallas, Texas to mortuary college and graduated in 1966.  I've always been a dedicated funeral director thinking of each family in their time of need and what I can do to help them.  My lovely wife Gail and I own a home in the Maymead community.  We have a daughter Becky and four grandchildren. We lost our son Van, in 2001.  Shortly after his death, we sold the Bass-Okeechobee Funeral Home after 27 years.  I felt in my heart that Mountain City needed a locally owned funeral home, so here we are.  We love Mountain City and all the wonderful people here.  I have always felt helping people is my calling and I could not have found two better men than Danny and Hugh along with their families to help me in my calling.

Hugh Slemp

I am a native of Johnson County and a graduate of Johnson County High School. My parents were Orville and Lola Slemp and I now reside at the home place on 421 north.  I worked at Bristol Steel  for 28 years, at which time my mother died and I became interested in the funeral business. I graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta in 1993. Being in funeral service since then, I have learned that this is a ministry and I try to treat each family with compassion.  I am a licensed funeral director and embalmer in Tennessee and Virginia. I am married to Loretta Warren and we have two children and four grandchildren and we attend the Baptist Church
